This year’s World Series has been the largest of them all, with more entrants across all events than any previous Series. A total of 52,720 players entered an event this year, an increase of 4,432 on last year’s previous record. There was a total of $180,676,248 handed out in prizes (including the prize pool from the Main Event) – that’s $20,880,030 more than last year.
The Main Event itself is the second biggest of all time, with only Jamie Gold having overcome a bigger field in 2006. Gold had to beat a field of 8,773, while this year’s champion will have to overcome 6,844.
Of course, the World Series is becoming an increasingly international affair, with a total of 118 countries represented this year, with players from almost sixty countries cashing. Every state in the US had a cash, as did every province in Canada.
One man who did break another record was Nikolay Evdakov – you’ll hear about his shortly!
