World Series of Poker Europe 2011 starts today

Friday, 7 October 2011

The most bustling World Series of Poker Europe schedule we’ve seen commences today with a €2,680 6-max NL tournament starting within the next few hours. Tomorrow a €1,090 NL event will be trying to smash the “largest WSOPE tournament” record; the series being for the first time in the much more spacious Cannes.

The event, which was won first by Annette Obrestad in 2007, begins its fifth run today and its first outside of The Empire in Leicester Square. The €10,400 Main Event begins next Saturday. It’s attracted, no joke, about tree-fiddy players while held in London and despite the turbulence rocking the poker world, we’re expecting a record field.

New events on the schedule include the €3,200 NL Shootout on October 11 as well as a 6-max PLO that should go down very well; that carries a €1,620 buy-in and kicks off on October 13. Event #5 is an interesting one – a Split NL event that is full ring on day one, 6-max on day two and heads-up for day three.
