World Series of Poker Europe £2,650 6-max Day 1 complete

Wednesday, 15 September 2010

The fourth annual World Series of Poker Europe began in Leicester Square last night with the new £2,500 + £150 6-max NL event receiving a turnout of 244 players by the end of late registration; after ten blind levels just 31 players remain.

Included in this list of survivors are several notable British names attempting to keep another domestically-hosted title on UK soil in the way that Jake Cody did with the WPT London last week. The British are out in force – WSOP bracelet-winner Praz Bansi; Aussie Millions champion and inaugural WSOPE runner-up John Tabatabi; EPT San Remo winner Liv Boeree; online tournament legend and Brunson 10 member Chris Moorman; old school pro Willie Tann are all still alive in the field.

Moorman is the UK pro to watch. The man with more than $5.5m in online tournament earnings to his name (which puts him at around 42nd on the all-time money list for poker tournaments) is in fifth place in chips, having transformed his 7,500 stack into 94,200. He can’t touch Canadian chip leader Andrew Pantling though – the EPT Monte Carlo heads-up champion is one of three players to break the 100,000 mark along with Tai Tran and Chris Bjorin, going for his record-breaking fourth WSOPE cash.

Players return this afternoon with blinds at 500/1,000/100 and the average chip stack around the 60,000 region. They play past the money bubble of 24 players down to the final table, with each of the final six guaranteed £23,900 and first place receiving £170,802. The top five chip counts are as follows:

1. Andrew Pantling – 106,100
2. Chris Bjorin – 103,800
3. Tai Tran – 103,400
4. Javed Abrahams – 96,600
5. Chris “moorman1” Moorman – 94,200
