World Poker Tour to stop in Florida’s Hard Rock next year

Tuesday, 10 August 2010

Remember this time last year when there were genuine fears about the future of the World Poker Tour? These have now been throroughly banished with the WPT recently signing a contract to bring its tournament series (including a $10,000 event) to Florida annually for the next five years.

The tournament series will run from April 27 to May 3 and culminate in a $10,000 Main Event.

Next year, the WPT will be played out at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel And Casino but could move between there or Tampa over the next half decade.

"The Hard Rock poker people did some research as to what their players wanted most and bringing in the WPT was at the top of the list," said Seminole spokesman Gary Bitner. "So, they’ve responded by making that happen."

This now puts Florida on the poker map for the first time. Up until July 1, it was not possible to play with more than $100 in front of you even at a $5/$10 NL table.

Now they are playing normal poker. This, plus the WPT’s announcement, must be getting Floridian players and fans alike very excited.
