World Poker Tour becomes energy company

World Poker Tour becomes energy company

Saturday, 15 May 2010

We must admit that we didn‘t see this one coming - well, almost. Shortly after World Poker Tour Enterprises sold off assets to PartyGaming last year, chief executive Steve Lipscomb announced that the $28m company would be entering new business after changing the name to Ante4, Inc.

Well, the company has now signed a deal to merge with a Montana oil firm and formed Voyager Oil & Gas. WPT chairman Lyle Berman holds the same post in the newly-formed company.

“We thought if we could find a company with a great business model that needed cash then stock would trade significantly above $1.40,”
Berman said of the $28m paper company’s move towards energy. “We have fulfilled that mission.”

The PartyPoker WPT is enjoying great success with some record-breaking prize pools and - pertinent to us - a new London Classic announced this Bank Holiday in August.

Qualifiers are running now at PartyPoker.
