The World Poker Tour has announced its third tournament outside the United States. The North American Poker Championship, which usually takes place at the Bellagio in Vegas, will this year be hosted by the Niagara Fallsview casino in Canada. The event, which is due to take place at the back end of October, will follow stops at the Aviation Club in Paris and the Caribbean Adventure, as one of the WPT’s non-US stops.
With big name Canadian pros such as Daniel Negreanu, current WPT player of the year Gavin Smith, Evelyn Ng and William Edler, the WPT are looking to capitalise on the growing Canadian market. The casino is certainly up to standard, with 3,000 slots, 150 gaming tables, a dedicated poker room, not to mention a huge world class hotel. The WPT shouldn’t have any trouble fitting into the surroundings. It’s now just a case of waiting to see if more overseas casinos make it onto the schedule.
