World Poker Tour (WPT) Enterprises has announced a five-year deal with a popular American pub poker league, the Amateur Poker League (APL), to bring its experience to venues across the US.
The APL holds more than 500 free tournaments in approximately 180 venues in more than a dozen states and the new deal will see the two create the World Poker Tour Amateur Poker League (WPTAPL). All participating players will now be able to earn points and be ranked on a leader board hosted at WPTAPL.com. Points will get players into regional tournaments with regional winners moving on to participate in the WPTAPL championship event in Orlando, Florida, in April with the overall winner receiving a $10,000 entry into a WPT event.
In addition, the WPTAPL said that it would be giving one of its players a seat into the WPT Celebrity Invitational, an invitation-only freeroll in which the winner earns a seat into the $25,000 WPT Championship.
The WPT has also announced a five-year agreement with Classic Gaming Cruises (CGC) to create WPT Cruises, which will begin heading out to sea in February.
