World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Showdown begins today

Wednesday, 27 April 2011

The World Poker Tour makes a stop in Florida today for the Seminole Hard Rock Showdown, a $10,000 buy-in event sure to attract the big names and leave Jason Mercier (Florida kid who won EPT San Remo) with a choice between nostalgia and home state for which big event to play this weekend.

If you remember, poker has only recently expanded in Florida as up until a couple of years ago the minimum buy-in for any cash table was $100; $1/$2 or $10/$20 it didn’t matter. Now the rule has been shifted and we’ve been seeing a surge of events in Florida attracting bigger fields – and why not? The Sunshine State is, after all, sunny.

Tournament director extraordinaire Matt Savage has predicted a field of 450 players, which would certainly make up for the disappointing turnout of 97 at the last event. So far we’ve already been Tweeted by Scott Montgomery, Joe Tehan, Jeff Madsen and Matt Affleck confirming their attendance at the event.
