World Poker Tour London Classic Day 1B complete

World Poker Tour London Classic Day 1B complete

Wednesday, 1 September 2010

The second opening flight of the inaugural World Poker Tour London Classic concluded late last night with a total of 94 entrants; 54 players will return and attempt to overtake the monster chip stack of eight-time WSOP bracelet-winner Erik Seidel this afternoon. In total, 90 players will sit down at the felt for Day 2 with late registration available for the first level of play today.

Day 1b could not be quite as star-studded as its predecessor, though dozens of big poker names played out the day. Notable representation of home turf came in the form of British pro and 2010 WSOP bracelet-winner Richard Ashby, who finished Day 1b second place in the chip counts behind GUKPT regular Priyan de Mel's impressive 235,000 stack.

Many more were less fortunate but still lasted the full seven levels of play with chips - PartyPoker pro Tony G has 47,200 going into Day 2 while Freddy Deeb has accumulated over 70,000. Flying the flag for British pros alongside Ashby are Hendon Mobster Ross Boatman, former Eastender Michael Greco and Welshman Surindar Sunar, barely clinging to life on less than 10,000 chips.

Alynn Shulman proved that her family should continue to play poker in London - she finished Day 2 with over 100,000 in chips slightly less than a year after her husband Barry took down the 2009 WSOPE for over $1,000,000.

Join us the same time tomorrow when the WPT London Classic will be down to 27 players and the prize pool will be unveiled. The top five chip counts from Day 1b are as follows:
1. Priyan de Mel (235,000)
2. Richard Ashby (229,800)
3. Giovanni Safina (140,000)
4. Tyler Shook (139,200)
5. Joshua Field (134,400)
