With the Main Event virtually over, most players take this opportunity to assess their year. The winnings are counted, assessments of your game made, and we look to see how the bright new talents in the game have progressed. For some though, they literally couldn’t wait to get back in the saddle.
The WPT Bellagio Cup IV offered an immediate chance for players to get back to thr tables, and with starting stacks of 45,000 and a 90-minute clock, the prospect of a good structured tournament was in place. That makes the carnage from Day 2 all the more surprising, with almost sixty of the field out before the end of the first level. The pace didn’t slow all day, and the field eventually thinned itself down to 124 players – just three tables away from a payday.
Those players who are still in contention include Ralph Perry, David Benyamine, Jennifer Tilly, Todd Brunson and Ted Forrest. The overnight chip leader is Javed Abrahams, who will return on Day 3 with 544,000.
