Having ventured north of the border for the North American Poker Championships, the World Poker Tour has returned to the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut for the World Poker Finals, one of the season’s premier events.
Last year Nenad Medic won over $1.7m when besting a final table including Kathy Liebert and Mimi Tran. Previous years have seen entries from all the top pros, and the roll call of winners is impressive: Howard Lederer, Tuan Le, Hoyt Corkins and Nick Shulman have all won this tournament as well as the powerful Medic. The buy in is $10,000 and last year Medic overcame a field of just over 600. The event runs over six days in total, and is held at the largest casino in the world, boasting over 380 gaming tables and 7,400 slot machines.
Foxwoods was one of the first casinos to sign to the World Poker Tour, and the relationship has been extremely successful for both parties. The Connecticut-based casino even opened a WPT-themed room last year, expanding its poker room from around 75 tables to 115.
If the previous year’s action is anything to go by, this should be one slobber-knocker of a tournament, so keep your ears open for the latest on the tournament as we report it.
