If further evidence was ever needed to prove that poker is now a global business rather just than a card game you play with friends over a few beers, the World Poker Congress is it.

If further evidence was ever needed to prove that poker is now a global business rather just than a card game you play with friends over a few beers, the World Poker Congress is it. Taking place on 27-28 June in Stockholm, Sweden, the aim is to get together all the major players in poker business to talk strategy and learn from the big boys. To this end, World Poker Tour President, Steve Lipscomb, arguably the creator of the poker boom, will deliver a keynote speech to delegates.
It’s expected he’ll talk about how he set up a rival to the long established World Series of Poker, launched the Professional Players Tour and how he’s managed to develop a line of WPT sunglasses (for wearing at the baize and not the beach, naturally).
What makes his appearance that bit more exciting is the presence of the other keynote speaker, Jeffery Pollack, the first commissioner of the WSOP. If delegates can’t learn the tricks of the trade from these two then they’re either not listening carefully enough or more likely are out in the foyer sneaking a quick game of poker whilst the more boring speeches are being made.
