$1.25m is guaranteed in prize money for the opening event of the PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker, which kicks off later today. The six-max No Limit Hold’em tournament - starting at 14:30 EST (7.30pm BST) tonight - is the first of 45 tournaments scheduled throughout September.

A further $200,000 is guaranteed in the other opening day event, the $215 buy-in Razz tournament that starts at 9.30pm UK time. The action continues tomorrow with the $215 buy-in, $500,000 guaranteed six-max Omaha competition, the $215 no limit single draw two to seven event and a $109 eight game competition.

The online extravaganza is expected to attract some of the top players in the game including Daniel Neagreanu who said “There are hundreds of exciting tournaments all year round but nothing compares to the WCOOP. It’s the ‘must play’ event of the year for any poker player.”

The showpiece $5,200 Main Event takes place on 20th September. Qualifiers are currently running on PokerStars for as little as $1.
