Building work has started at Resorts World Birmingham after Genting UK received ‘a significant funding package’ from The Royal Bank of Scotland.

The new leisure resort and super casino at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) will create nearly 1,000 permanent jobs once it is completed in 2015.

“The bank developed a bespoke package to assist with our project and has been instrumental in helping this project become a reality,” said Richard Salmond from Genting UK. “We’re confident that this project for Birmingham will boost the local economy and become a core asset for the company in the UK.”

Genting stated that the money was made available via the government’s Funding For Lending Scheme in partnership with The Royal Bank of Scotland’s Corporate and Institutional Banking division.

In addition to a casino, the Vegas-style complex will also feature a luxury hotel, cinema, retail factory outlet as well as bars and restaurants.

Genting is the UK's largest casino operator with over 40 properties located across the UK and including its flagship Crockford’s venue in London.
