Willie Tann has poked you – fake Facebook alert

Willie Tann has poked you – fake Facebook alert

Tuesday, 23 February 2010

Facebooking poker fans, beware! Rumour has it that some less than scrupulous members of our industry have made it onto the social networking site and are using it to extract money by posing as others – recently it was revealed that UK pro Willie Tann had fallen victim to the imposters.

Stories say that the Facebook fraud has been using Tann’s name and reputation to ask fans for money in sums ranging from $30 to $200. “Willie Tann” asked for the money to be given via PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker accounts.

Fortunately, the clever clogseses over at the Hendon Mob forums quickly pounced on the fake, pointing out that it is most certainly not the real Willie Tann. The account has since been deleted, but it had happened before to Hendon Mobster Joe Beevers and will almost certainly happen again.

Be vigilant, readers – don’t send money to people unless you can 100% trust them, or just don’t send it online altogether. One safe, poker-related thing you can do on Facebook or Twitter, however, is to Become A Fan of or Follow Bluff Europe. Here is our link on Facebook and Twitter.

You stay classy, Europe. Wait, that’s the wrong sign-off. You stay safe, Europe. Better.
