William Hill Poker Boosts Playtech Profits

William Hill Poker Boosts Playtech Profits

Thursday, 10 September 2009

In July, online gaming moguls Playtech – the software designers behind many of your favourite poker rooms – announced that their profits were looking none-too-bright. In fact, a spokesperson revealed that "a prolonged integration period and difficult trading conditions" meant that a deal with William Hill Online was taking longer than thought.

Now chief executive Mor Weizer says that the contribution from William Hill poker has already had a large impact on Playtech’s figures. Its share of profits and royalties from the 29 per cent stake in the venture totalled €15.3m (£13.3m) in the first half.

William Hill’s Playtech-powered poker room is one of the most successful online with up to 25,000 players online at any one time. Their Monthly Million tournament is just as big as the name suggests and new depositors get to compete in $4,000 freerolls.
