Having already tried and failed twice, the Venetian in Las Vegas has announced that it’s going to try and make it third time lucky with a new poker room. Clocking in at 11,000 square feet and situated next to the sports and race book, the idea is to develop something so classy that punters won’t be able to resist dropping in and handing over all of their One Armed Bandit money at the baize.
Not that the riff raff will be allowed in. Set to cost $2.6 million, featuring 39 tables, seven of which will be reserved for high stakes, the aim is to attract the best of the poker playing world and capitalise on the games growing popularity amongst the Hollywood elite. For this reason, they’re even talking about building in areas around the poker room where non-players can spy in and see if any famous faces are unburdening themselves of their recent movie payments. The grand opening is likely to see Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Howard Lederer and Jennifer Tilly show their faces. And you’ll be able to see them from the viewing areas just like anyone else who hasn’t got the cash for a buy-in.
