Who is RaiseOnce on PokerStars?

Sunday, 26 September 2010

A few months ago, people took notice of a player on PokerStars (location: Las Vegas) named ‘RaiseOnce’ who was a regular at the high stakes Limit Hold ‘em and mixed game tables on PokerStars. More recently, this player won the $25,500 Heads Up WCOOP championship for almost $400,000.

Speculation on the rail said it was Phil Ivey or Patrik Antonius; some said it was Huck Seed and others said it was Viktor “Isildur1” Blom – his PokerStars name, however, is likely ‘grolongo’.

Well, we were doing some big grown-up investigative journalism and asked Huck Seed if he was RaiseOnce. He said no but that he had heard it was Patrik Antonius or Phil Ivey. Now, apparently Ivey was spotted playing craps during the WCOOP tournament but that’s not verified. And
now new evidence has pointed the finger back at Phil.

Statistics from both players in heads-up No Limit Hold ‘em are very similar. Their VPIP/PFR are within a few per cent as are their 3- and 4-betting stats. Most unusually, however, is that RaiseOnce defends his big blind almost 70% of the time. There’s only one other nosebleed player who plays out of position so much heads-up and that is Phil Ivey.
