WSOPE 2011 €1,090 NL event the largest ever

Monday, 10 October 2011

The previous record field for a WSOPE event was set in 2009 when JP Kelly beat out a 608-strong field for the £1,000 NL event at The Empire. Over the past two days, the second event of the WSOPE in Cannes – a €1,090 NL affair – attracted 771 players over the course of two opening flights, smashing the previous record.

Just 104 players survived Day 1a or Day 1b, among them Toby Lewis, Randy Dorfman, Erik Cajelais, Eoghan O’Dea, Matthew Waxman, Peter Jetten, John Eames, Vanessa Selbst and Roberto Romanello. Overall chip leader heading into Day 2 is Australian player Andrew Hinrichsen, who turned his 3,000 starting stack into a staggering 63,900.

Day 2 begins today with the remainder of the huge field playing down into the money. The winner is set to walk away with €148,030
