Main Event Day 2 complete; Rijkenberg leads, Cody, Corkins and Seidel in top ten

Tuesday, 18 October 2011

The starting field of 328 surviving players was smashed yesterday at a fast and furious Day 2 of the WSOPE Main Event in Cannes. Just 116 players remain to return for Day 3 with the start-of-day chip leader and chip runner-up – Jamie Rosen and Tommy Vedes – both failing to make it through.

Leading the field into Day 3 is Constant Rijkenberg; constant was the manner in which he accumulated chips and his stack of 462,800 – just above three times the average – puts him in the lead. Rifat Palevic’s aggression took his count higher than that at one stage but that same aggression has him finish on less than 400,000.

One big name at the top of the counts is last year’s 12th place finisher Hoyt Corkins. He is second in chips heading into Day 3 with 429,000. Jake Cody with 323,300 and Erik Seidel 291,900 are in the top ten in the chip counts. Other notable survivors include Tony G, Patrik Antonius and defending champion James Bord.
