Elio Fox leads British-dominated WSOPE final table

Thursday, 20 October 2011

The final table for the record-breaking World Series of Poker Europe Main Event in Cannes has been set, with eight players remaining in contention from a 593-strong starting field. Though American player, the awesomely-named Elio Fox, is our chip leader, it’s the UK that dominate the final table.

Jake Cody is second in chips, gunning for his second World Series bracelet and hoping to be the first player to complete the “Quadruple Crown” by adding this title to his WPT, EPT and WSOP victories – victories he accrued within just 18 months. In fourth place in the chip counts is Chris “moorman1” Moorman, who just this summer earned over $1m at the WSOP in Las Vegas and has earned a staggering $7m in online tournaments.

Max Silver, who recently finished fourth in an almost-title-defence at the UKIPT Dublin event he won in 2010, also made the final table of the €3,200 Shootout. He’s having a great WSOPE so far and despite being sixth in chips, must be confident heading into the final table today.

Shawn Buchanan, who recently finished runner-up to Michael Mizrachi in the “Mix-Max” event (€10,000 Split NL) at this WSOPE, is the short stack. Interestingly, both he and Chris Moorman can take the WSOP Player of the Year title from Ben Lamb by winning this event, assuming Lamb doesn’t finish in the top three at the November Nine.

James Bord is personally refunding all bets up to $500 if a US player wins the final table and Fox has a big chip lead. He may not be defending his title, but he has a nice sweat all the same. The winner of the event takes home €1.4m while each of the final eight are guaranteed at least six figures. The final table chip counts are as follows with blinds at 15k/30k:

1. Elio Fox – 3.99m
2. Jake Cody – 2.685m
3. Dermot Blain – 2.405m
4. Chris Moorman – 2.23m
5. Brian Roberts – 2m
6. Max Silver – 1.825m
7. Moritz Kranich – 1.66m
8. Shawn Buchanan – 1.015m
