World Series of Poker Europe Day 1b completed

Friday, 24 September 2010

Well, that wraps things up for Day 1b of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. A total of 209 runners today upped the tally to a 346-strong field with a first prize of £830,401 ($1.31m). There are 36 players in the Day 1a and Day 1b survivors who will pocket at least £21,150. Everyone is looking to the first place prize and the bracelet, though.

Among them from Day 1b are some of poker’s best and brightest – Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, Eli Elezra, Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Sam Trickett, JP Kelly, James Mitchell, Praz Bansi, Patrik Antonius, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, Liv Boeree, JC Tran, Mike Matusow, Neil Channing and defending champion Barry Shulman.

Want more names? Try Jennifer Tilly, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Chris “Moorman1” Moorman, Kathy Liebert, Andy Black and Erik Cajelas. They will join such stars as Howard Lederer, John Juanda, Nicolas Levi, Arnaud Mattern and Joe Beevers tomorrow. Plus many more – in total it seems we’re looking at a Day 2 field of 197; we guessed 194 so not bad work on our part!

James Mitchell now holds the overnight chip lead with a stack topping 180,000. He won a huge eleventh hour pot against John Racener which sent the latter player back down to the starting stack of 30,000 – give or take. Once again, Matt Perry bemoans the fact that he is still barely affording the £30 freezeouts they played in together back in 2007. That’s why you work on your game, Matt.

That’s it from us tonight but in the near future we’ll post up the Day 1a and Day 1b combined chip counts plus exact prize pool details. Also expect a full and detailed report of all the Day 1b action tomorrow morning before we get down and dirty with Day 2. We are the only UK poker magazine providing full, live coverage of this event – tell your friends.
