WSOPE Main Event - jungleman12, Flushy and Cheong are che-gone!

WSOPE Main Event - jungleman12, Flushy and Cheong are che-gone!

Thursday, 23 September 2010

Our last post was a little pre-emptive and since the official start of the break we actually lost a few more well-known players on the last ten minutes of poker. November Niner Joseph Cheong left us when his last 4,000 chips were entrusted to a K-J dominated by the A-K of Ted Lawson, for one.

Daniel “jungleman12” Cates can fly back to the US and wait for Tom “durrrr” Dwan to resume the challenge. He got it in with 99 on a board that gave him a flush draw and gutshot against the made straight of November Niner Filippo Candio. Cates smiled and confessed that he thought he had made a set but he still had twelve outs – none hit and he is walking home.

Another casualty is James Dempsey, whose WSOP experience (several final tables and a bracelet) this past summer will not help him. He lost out with what seems to have been KK against A-x suited. On the other end of the spectrum, PokerStars pro Arnaud Mattern has shot up in the chip counts again after eliminating Andy Bloch in a big pot where the MIT graduate’s AA was outdrawn by a cruel two-outer on the river; Mattern made a set with QQ to increase his stack to 70,000 or so.

It looks like around 115 players left but until the big board is updated after the break we won’t know more than that. The target of 80 to 90 left by the end of play at midnight looks realistic, at least. We’ll see you at 8.45pm for more live reporting after the break.
