WSOPE Heads-Up High Roller semi-finals begin

Thursday, 23 September 2010

Amid the hubbub of the Main Event there is still another to be played – the highest, central table has been reserved for the semi-finals of the High Roller Heads-Up event where Gus Hansen, on one end, squares off against Andrew Feldman. Ram Vaswani is facing down his opponent on the opposite side.

All four players are guaranteed just shy of £100,000 but the finalists will be competing for a first and second place prize of £177,000 and £288,000 plus the gold bracelet. Hansen is yet to secure a WSOP title despite his numerous tournament accolades and Ram Vaswani will be looking to make this bracelet his second.

The players are starting with 960,000 in chips with 4,000/8,000 blinds to start for half hour levels. Around them, though, players are building and losing stacks in the £10,300 Main Event. Vanessa Selbst won a flip with AK v. TT (but had a sweat on a J-8-Q-T-K board) to reach 4,100 – far improved from the 500 she ended Level One with.

It looks as though Pierre Canali’s 63,000 stack is still enough to keep him in the chip lead although Faraz Jaka, Michael Mizrachi, Jason Mercier and Arnaud Mattern have all added at least 10,000 to their respective stacks.
