WSOPE - 36 remain, Andrew Pantling leads as bubble bursts

Sunday, 26 September 2010

With the elimination of Rudy Blondeau in 37th place we are in the money at the World Series of Poker Europe. He got his chips in after an under the gun raise was 3-bet by Bryan Powell. A shove, a call and he was in dire straits against Powell’s A-A with A-Q.

The board drew an excited “oooooooooooh” from the crowd as it fell K-J-7 providing with both straight and backdoor spade outs. The turn was an anti-climactic and offsuit four and with that and the five of spades on the river we have our unfortunate bubble boy and 35 men and one woman in the money, guaranteed at least £21,106.

Andrew Pantling still leads the field but Phil Ivey and Viktor Blom are hot on his tail. Other notable names still in play include Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Bryn Kenney (who doubled up twice on the bubble with A-8 v A-K and A-K v A-Q), James Mitchell, Freddy Deeb, Roland de Wolfe and Barry Greenstein.

There are about ten minutes left on the clock for the 2,000/4,000/500 level after which the now moneyed-up players will take a short break and return to try and make it to the final 27 and Day 4.
