James Mitchell departs; Hansen vs. Collopy underway

Sunday, 26 September 2010

Irish Open champion James Mitchell has been eliminated from the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event in 31st place. The Londoner pockets £21,106 which is the compensation for being dealt 9-9 against T-T on a seven-high flop. Meanwhile his former neighbour, Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, is still winning and losing big pots every other hand.

The rail for the remaining players – who include Barry Greenstein, Barny Boatman and Phil Ivey who is currently finding out NFL scores – is diminished by the showdown at centre stage on the televised table. Gus Hansen is squaring off against Jim Collopy for the last of their three matches in the final of the £10,000 Heads Up High Roller event that started last Tuesday.

Hansen dominated their first matches and is very unlucky not to have the bracelet locked up already. Don’t underestimate “Mr_BigQueso” though; Collopy has more than $1.5m in online tournament earnings and must be fairly nifty heads-up to have locked up so many wins. Currently he has a big lead over Hansen with over 2.8m to Hansen’s 1.04m.
