Hansen and Vaswani lead heads-up; Main Event hits level four

Thursday, 23 September 2010

Not distracted by the arrival of Phil Hellmuth in a UB bus complete with brass band and Lady Gaga lookalikes; Gus Hansen and Ram Vaswani have been getting their heads down and building up chips in the semi-finals of the £10,000 Heads Up High Roller event.

Hansen holds a dominating chip lead over opponent Andrew Feldman with 1,615,000 to his 305,000. Meanwhile, Hendon Mobster Ram Vaswani has been chipping away at Jim Collopy to give him a 1,040,000 to 880,000 lead. Collopy recovered before the break when Vaswani called a big river all-in on a 5-2-J-J-J board only to muck when shown 9-9.

Hansen is fortunate he gets to sit down – the Dane is on crutches after a sports injury. The Full Tilt Pro is after his first bracelet to go with his WPT and Aussie Millions titles – he had to break concentration during one hand when Hellmuth arrived with his 11 Lady Gagas.

In the Main Event we are still left with most of the field but some likely favourites have gone – Annette Obrestad left after failing to find momentum and bemoaning that she didn’t know where her chips had gone: “The biggest mistake I made today was for 3k”.

She is joined on the rail by Michael Mizrachi who won’t be making joint final tables a la Ivan Demidov or James Akenhead and also by Sorel Mizzi, who just fell foul of an AK vs AQ situation. We have 127 players remaining for Day 1a and players will resume after a short break with antes introduced at 150/300/25.
