WSOPE £10,000 Main Event Day 1a

WSOPE £10,000 Main Event Day 1a

Saturday, 26 September 2009

After a torrid journey through a packed A40 and a majorly closed-off Oxford Street I found myself at the World Series of Poker Europe £10,000 NLHE Main Event with 150 of the 156 initial entrants for Day 1a remaining.

Unfortunately I missed Phil Hellmuth making a prat of himse- sorry, entering the building, dressed as a Roman centurion complete with PH banner and armed guards. He’s currently at the featured table alongside Doyle Brunson and a host of unfortunate individuals unlucky enough to be at the table with the Texas dolly - on around 25k from the starting stack of 30k. It’s his usual tactic of blinding down while waiting for aces before doubling through several times and winning the tournament – I don’t know how it works but 11 WSOP bracelets can’t be wrong.

The current top chip counts read like a Who’s Who of poker, with Irishman Andy Black presently topping the charts on over 80,000. November Niner Steven Begleiter is hot on his tail with 76k and Jason Mercier has recently doubled up with a set to come in just behind David “Viffer” Peat; hoping to add a European bracelet to his recent EPT and WSOP victories.
The room is packed with people who usually frequent tournament final tables and the highest games in Vegas – Todd Brunson is up with the big boys; Phil Ivey is still on around 30k and fellow November Niner James Akenhead has just crept into the top ten.

Stay tuned for more updates from Bluff Europe at The WSOPE, Leicester Square.
