Negreanu making moves at WSOPE Final Table

Thursday, 1 October 2009

Early action on this table of high profile names has come courtesy of Daniel Negreanu - who has managed to transform his short stack into the second chip lead. He started the day with 438,000 and wasted no time by doubling up with a set over set against chip leader Jason Mercier.

Negreanu then tangled with the other short stack Chris Bjorin and ended up doubling him up when his AK spiked a K on the flop to move ahead of Daniel’s pocket jacks. However, it was obviously a minor setback to Negreanu’s confidence as he then went on a rampage, winning a series of small pots and a few larger ones - most of his chips arriving before him courtesy of Akenhead, Bansi and Mercier.

As a result, Negreanu now sits in second place with 1.9 million chips. Both Akenhead and Bansi are down from their starting stacks, sitting on 700,000 and 600,000 respectively.
