Matt Hawrilenko leads WSOPE Main Event field at end of Day 3

Just 36 players remained at the end of Day 3 of the World Series Of Poker Europe with American pro Matt “Hoss-TBF” Hawrilenko heading the field. Hawrilenko, who won a bracelet in the $5,000 Six handed No Limit Hold’em event earlier this year, has a stack of 701,500, over 50,000 ahead of nearest rival Steven Fung.
The Hit Squad’s Praz Bansi had another good day and currently sits in third place with 471,000 chips. Joining them in the top ten are Arnauld Mattern, Barry Shulman, father of November Nine finalist Jeff Shulman, John Kabbaj, Peter Gould, Shandoi Demjan, Keith Hawkins and Eric Liu.
There are plenty of big names still in contention too with Hendon Mobster Ram Vaswani, Daniel Negreanu, WCOOP main event winner Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Doyle Brunson and Devilfish all very handily placed. A Main Event double is still a possibility too with both James Akenhead and Antoine Saout holding stacks of over 150,000.
The big surprise on Day 3 was the performance of Teddy Sheringham who finished the day in 16th place with a stack of 271,000. Perhaps we shouldn’t be too shocked at the former England international’s play though. He was runner up behind Vanessa Rousso in April’s Ante Up For Africa event at the EPT championship in Monte Carlo.
Spare a thought for John Tabatabai too. The young Welshman became the tournament bubble boy after seeing his pocket aces cracked by Peter Gould’s set of sevens. Other players to head to the rail on Day 3 included Amnon Filippi, Andrew Lichtenberger and the start of day chip leader Ian Munns.
