Ian Munns leads WSOPE at the end of Day 2

Tuesday, 29 September 2009

A truncated day at the Empire Casino saw the field drop below the hundred mark and Briton Ian Munns build himself a healthy lead at the head of the field. He closed the day with a massize stack of 528,300, over 200,000 ahead of his nearest rival, The Hit Squad’s Praz Bansi, who bagged up 299,000.

The big name looming large over the leading pack is that of Doyle Brunson. The ten-time WSOP bracelet winner is very handily positioned in sixth place with a stack of 210,900. Joining the 76-year-old in a high quality top ten are Amnon Filippi, Ram Vaswani and Jason Mercier. Other big names still in with a shout include former champions John Juanda and Annette Obrestad, Daniel Negreanu, Freddy Deeb, Antonio Esfandiari, Men The Master and Kenna James.

The British challenge is strong too with Devilfish, Robin Keston, John Kabbaj, Joe Beevers and John Tabatabai all still fighting. There’s still the possibility of a Main Event double as November Niners James Akenhead and Antoine Saout sit in 17th and 50th place respectively.

There’ll be no glory for Barry Greenstein, Phil Hellmuth, Erik Seidel, Howard Lederer and Mike Matusow this year though as they all busted out on Day 2.

The 92 remaining players will resume play at noon today.
