Day 1 of WSOPE PLHE/PLO Event Complete

Tuesday, 22 September 2009

As JP “MavFish” Kelly was claiming his second bracelet of 2009, the £2,500 Hold ‘em/Omaha mixed event was well underway with 158 players having registered to create a prize pool of £395,000 and a six-figure first-place prize of £104,000 + change.

Despite a smaller field then Event 1, yesterday's attendance was nevertheless a star-studded affair, with Sorel Mizzi, Devilfish, Phil Hellmuth, Mike Matusow, John Juanda, Doyle Brunson, Annette Obrestad and Chris Ferguson all coming and going before the end of the day.

Some of the big names who did make the last 22 – just four spots before the money – include Howard Lederer, Nikolay Evdakov, Vitaly Lunkin, Men "The Master" Nguyen and Hoyt Corkins.

The chip leader, Eric Cajelas, just snuck into the top spot at the last minute in one of the dying hands of the day – an Ah-Th-Qc flop was perfect for Obrestad holding AQ, but Cajelas had KJ and the Norwegian couldn’t improve: she was eliminated.
