Chris Ferguson is amongst the chip leaders as Day 1b wraps

Saturday, 19 September 2009

Over 300 players started Day 1b of the £1,000 NL hold’em Event #1 of the World Series of Poker Europe, meaning a combined total of 608 players took to the felt over the 2 days to pull a share of the £608,000 prize-pool. Amongst the 300 Spartans were some big name pros including Phil Ivey, John Juanda, Chris Ferguson, Men Nguyen, Howard Lederer, Andy Black, Annette Obrestad, Alen Cunningham, Jeff Lisandro, Antonio Esfandiari, James Akenhead and, yes, the list goes on.

This means that, come the end of tomorrow, our winner of the first event of this years WSOPE will walk away with £136,803 – not to mention a shiny gold bracelet - and the top 63 finishers will receive cash payouts.

One of those poised to go the whole way is gool ol’ Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson, who finished day 1b amongst the chip leaders of the day. He joins Nicholas Levi, Stephane Hanson and Fabien Dunlop at the top of the Day 1b leaderboard and all four of them will be coming back tomorrow to face, amongst others, the likes of JP Kelly, Richard Kellett and Ian Frazer – who all finished big-stacked after Day 1a on Friday.

Our dear friend Phil Ivey had a good start to the day after doubling up early, despite arriving during Level 3 of the tournament. However, he was one of the many big name pros who didn’t make it through to Day 2. No sweat, Phil Ivey knows who to come to if he wants to be showed a good time in London. (reference to a previous post)

Those who will be coming back tomorrow include John Juanda and Jeff Lisandro. Both are fairly short stacked.

Day 2 will commence at 2pm tomorrow (Sunday 20th September) and will play down to the final table.
