Saturday, 29 September 2012

The 2012 World Series of Poker Europe is rapidly reaching its business end with the €10k Main Event starting today. Before that though, there are still two more bracelets to be awarded.

Event #5 - €10k Mix Max – Cantu maintains lead

The field in the 10k Mix Max event was whittled down from 16 to 4 yesterday following the heads up portion of the contest. Brandon Cantu maintained his position at the head of the chip counts after eliminating first Phil Hellmuth and then Martin Jacobson in the quarter final. Cantu, who returns with 1,067,500, will take Roger Hairabedian in the semi final. The Frenchman, who is looking for a second bracelet at this year's WSOPE will have to come from behind though, returning as he does with 702,500.

The other semi final looks set to be a tight affair with Faraz Jaka 526,000 taking on Jonathan Aguiar 586,500.

The action resumes at noon today UK time.

Event #6 – €1,650 PLO - Lichtenberger on top

The field in the €3,250 PLO event is down to just five with Andrew Lichtenberger the man to beat. LuckyChewy returns with a stack of 256,000 putting him just ahead of Francisco Da Costa Santos 233,000 and Aku Joentausta 202,000. Pro Anna Marquez lies fourth (176,000) with Petteri Kalenius (63,000) the short stack.

Notables who made the money included John Eames (20th), Daniel Negreanu (19th), Dan Smith (17th), John Monnette (14th) and Mike McDonald (11th).

All five are guaranteed at least €18,463 with the winner walking away with €83,275. The action in this one resumes at 1pm UK time.
