WSOPE Event 2, £5,250 PLO Day 1 complete

WSOPE Event 2, £5,250 PLO Day 1 complete

Friday, 17 September 2010

As Phil Laak took down his first WSOP bracelet the second event of the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe began. The pros descended on The Empire for the £5,250 Pot-Limit Omaha game which last year saw 154 entrants and the year before 165.

Attendance was decidedly decreased for 2010 when the final prize pool was announced at £600,000 after 120 entrants. That was still enough for a first prize of £160,000 to motivate players and 49 survivors. Sadly for the railbirds these 49 do not include the likes of Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Annette Obrestad or three-time PLO casher Howard Lederer who all hit the rail.

However, Barry Greenstein and Jeff Madsen both built up top 10 stacks to threaten today’s play. Both are chasing Samuel Stein, though – he built up his 3,000 starting stack to over 110,000 by the end of level eight.
With Day 2 playing down to the final table today, the seat draws have been announced and this looks like an early contender for the title of Table No One Wants to Be At:

Seat 1: Karl Mahrenholz
Seat 2: Phil Laak
Seat 3: Frank Kassela
Seat 4: Barry Greenstein
Seat 5: Ross Boatman
Seat 6: Jan Jochtmann
Seat 7: Chris Bjorin
Seat 8: Roberto Romanello
Seat 9: Danny Wong
