WSOPE Day 11 round up – Hellmuth, Negreanu, ElkY among Main Event chip leaders

Tuesday, 2 October 2012

Brandon Cantu isn't happy after Mix Max defeat. Hellmuth, Negreanu and ElkY build big stacks in the Main Event.

Event #5 €10,450 Mix Max - Aguiar wins

The much delayed €10,450 Mix Max event has finally been decided with Jonathan Aguiar beating long time chip leader Brandon Cantu after a marathon, and controversial heads up encounter.

Cantu was unhappy about the scheduling of the event, which was delayed following an unscheduled 5am suspension earlier this week. Play finally resumed yesterday with Aguiar sealing victory after winning a flip with AK against Cantu's pocket deuces.

Cantu later told PokerNews that this tournament was “The most I've ever been robbed of a bracelet... they (the WSOP) pretty much gave him (Aguiar) the tournament.” He challenged Aguiar to a heads up match for €130,000, details of which can be found here. Sounds like it could be a real grudge match.

Event #7 €10,450 Main Event – Baranov leads

77 of the 420 starters have made it through to Day 3 of the Main Event with Sergii Baranov building a healthy chip lead. The Russian returns with 607,000, well ahead of closest rival Vladimir Troyanovksy (375,100).

Plenty of big names made their move yesterday with Phil Hellmuth (364,900), UKIPT Dublin winner Max Silver (333,600), Joseph Cheong (328,400), Bertrand Grospellier (326,700) and Daniel Negreanu (290,000) all building big stacks.

Further back are the likes of Chris Brammer (246,300), David Benyamine (201,300), Jason Mercier (195,800) and Liv Boeree (140,800).

This month's cover star Sam Trickett s still in the hunt but will have to work hard with his 60,000 stack to make a decent run. This is Sam Trickett though and anything is possible.

Play resumes at blinds of 1,000/2,000 with a 100 ante. The average stack is at the 163,000 mark.
