The big names were out in force in Cannes for the €10,350 WSOPE Main Event with Michael Mizrachi and Bertrand Grospellier dominating the two opening flights.

Event #7 - €10,350 Main Event – Grinder and ElkY build big stacks


The two opening flights of the WSOPE Main Event are in the book with a total 420 players paying the €10,350 buy-in. Michael Mizrachi enjoyed the best Day 1A, finishing with a stack of 234,850 followed by JC Alvarado (180,675). Other notables to survive the opening flight included Dan Shak (100,875), McLean Karr (85,975) and Alex Kravchenko (70,600). Salman Behbehani (86,900) led a strong British challenge that also included Chris Brammer (74,400), Mark Teltscher (52,450), John Eames (34,700), Ben Roberts (27,050) and Toby Lewis (18,200).


Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier was the big story of Day 1B, topping the chips counts of the close of play on 190,400. The PokerStars pro wasn't the only big name to enjoy a big day with Daniel Negreanu (137,500), Phil Hellmuth (116,150), Chino Rheem (109,700) and Eugene Katchalov (103,500) all finishing in the top ten.


230 of the 420 starters will be competing for a first prize of €1,022,376 when play resumes this lunchtime. Blinds are at 250/500 with a 50 ante. The average stack currently stands at 54,783.


Event #6 €1,650 PLO - Francisco Da Costa Santos wins Portugal's first bracelet


Portugal is celebrating its first World Series of Poker bracelet winner (in Europe or Vegas) after Francisco Da Costa Santos took the €1,650 PLO. Santos, looking like an extra member of The Magic Numbers, went into the final table second in the chip counts beat Spain's Ana Marquez heads up to walk away with a first prize of €82,275.


Event #5 - €10,350 Mix Max - Cantu and Aguiar to play for the bracelet


The Mix Max bracelet is yet to be decided. Brandon Cantu and Jonathan Aguiar battled for 6 hours but neither could deliver a knockout blow. French regulations meant that the casino was forced to close at 5am so the pair will reconvene at a yet to be decided time.
