WSOPE 2012 - Esfandiari riding high

Tuesday, 25 September 2012

Could Antonio Esfandiari be about to add a WSOPE bracelet to his $18m One Drop score? The Magician stands as good a chance as anyone in Event #2, the €1100 No limit.

With just 15 players remaining Esfandiari lies in second place on 264,000 chips, just behind leader Antonin Tessiere on 269,500. Day one chip leader Ashley Butler sits in third on 179,500. The remaining field will be battling out for the €126,207 first-place prize money with all of the final day starters walking away with at least €7680. Notables names to hit the rail yesterday included Marvin Rettenmaier, Greg Merson, Dominik Nitsche, and Erik Cajelais.

A stacked field of 97 players were on hand for the opening day of the WSOPE €5300 Pot Limit Omaha event, with just 25 remaining at the day's end. Leading them is Erich Kollmann with 127,500 chips, followed by flamboyant Frenchman Bruno Fitoussi on 108,600. Other famous faces still left in include Michael Mizrachi, Vanessa Selbst and Jason Mercier.

Notables who fell by the wayside were Jennifer Tilly, Phil Hellmuth, previous WSOPE Main Event winner John Juanda and Scotty Nguyen. Just 12 of the 25 will make the money, with the min-cash set at €9,929, and €142,590 for that elusive first place.

Plenty more big names are expected for the €3,250 no limit Shootout which starts later today.
