WSOPE £1,075 NL Hold'em Day 1A complete

Saturday, 18 September 2010

202 players were on hand for the first of three opening flights for the £1,075 NL Hold'em event yesterday. Just 28 remained after a frantic day of action which saw organisers bring play to a close one level earlier than scheduled.

When the dust settled and the chips were counted it was Denmark's Jeppe Bisgaard who had the most reason to cheer. The Dane holds the overnight chip lead on 49,000 followed by fellow Scandies Anton Wigg in second and Martin Hansen in third.

The opening flight was stacked with big name pro talent but hardly any of them will be returning for day two. Those who busted out early included Jude Ainsworth, Marty Smyth, Praz Bansi, John Juanda, Howard Lederer, Antonio Esfandiari, Jason Mercier and Chris Ferguson, who was the last player to go.

Defending champion JP Kelly is still very much in with a chance of a repeat though. The young Briton navigated his way safely through the day alongside November Niner Matthew Jarvis and UK tournament regular Keith 'The Camel' Hawkins.

Day 1B starts at 12pm today. Join us tomorrow to see who is one step closer to the bracelet.
