World Series of Poker 2012 begins

Monday, 28 May 2012

The moment is upon us and the 2012 World Series of Poker has finally begun. The first of 61 events is underway with the Casino Employees’ Event, which at the time of writing – approximately midnight local time – has burst the money bubble.

The first open event begins tonight, with Event #2 ($1,500 No Limit Hold’em) beginning and expecting a gargantuan field. The equivalent event last year saw a field of over 4,000 though this year there is an earlier start in the calendar for the first smaller buy-in.

Tomorrow, we can look forward to the introduction of a $3,000 heads-up No Limit Hold’em/Pot Limit Omaha event as well as a $1,500 Stud 8 event. The $10,000 Main Event begins on July 7 and between now and then the festival is packed full of poker with events including the $50,000 Players’ Championship and the much-anticipated $1m buy-in Big One for One Drop.

We will of course be offering a full daily round up of all the action from the Rio.
