Ivey makes another final table

Wednesday, 20 June 2012

Another day, another final table for Phil Ivey, this time in the $2.5k Mixed Hold'em event. Just ten of the 393 starters are still in the hunt for the $210k first prize with Ivey lying in ninth going into the final day.

The man to beat is Joep van den Bijgaart on 455,000 followed by Erik Cajelais on 411,000 and recent $1k NLHE bracelet winner Michael Gathy on 390,000. All eyes will of course be on Ivey when the action resumes at 9pm this evening UK time.

Big names advance in $3k Shootout

The opening round of $3k Shootout mathces took place overnight and there are plenty of familiar faces who have made it through to the final sixty. Among that number are David 'Bakes' Baker, Jean Robert Bellande, Joe Tehan, Melanie Weisner, Antonio Esfandiari, Justin Bonomo and Mickey Petersen. British hopes rest with James Akenehead, who has twice made the money at this year's WSOP, UKIPT winner Max Silver and Paul Kemp. The returning players are guaranteed $9,086 with the winner set to walk away with $368,593.

Max Steinberg wins $1k NLHE

Mike Sexton would no doubt have approved as dapper Max Steinberg walked away with the $1k NLHE bracelet overnight. The nattily dressed Steinberg, who was sporting a shirt and tie rather than the standard poker uniform of hoodie and baseball cap, outlasted a 2,795 runner field to take his first victory at the World Series. The American beat a final table that included Ryan LaPlante and Matt Stout, sealing the victory against Samuel Gerber when his pocket tens held against the Swiss player's 10-4.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:
1. Max Steinberg – $440,238
2. Sam Gerber – $273,385
3. Matt Stout – $192,813
4. Dylan Hortin – $139,258
5. Joseph Marzicola – $101,802
6. David Nicholson – $75,314
7. Ryan Laplante – $56,372
8. Vitaly Meshcheriakov – $42,688
9. Christopher Shaw – $32,702
