Cody riding high in Event #59

Friday, 6 July 2012

As expected, a massive field was on hand for event #59 of the WSOP, the $1,000 NL Hold’em. All told, 4,620 runners bought in over the two opening flights with Briton Jake Cody among the chip leaders when opening day action drew to a close.

The triple-crown winner will return on day two with a stack of 77,600, behind only Alex Cordero who was the only player to crack the six-figure stack mark with 100,475. 726 players will be back for day two and there are plenty of notable names dotted among them.

None come more notable than Phil Ivey who returns with 50,000. Other big name pros to survive the massive opening day include he of the unorthodox celebration Dominick Nitsche, Steve Sung, Leo Margets, Todd Terry and Terrence Chan.

The returning players will be playing for a share of a $4,158,000 prize pool with the winner set to walk away with an impressive $654,797.

The action resumes at 9pm tonight UK time.
