WSOP 2011 – Viacheslav Zhukov wins $10k Omaha 8 bracelet

The kind of player that makes us glad we simply write rather than attempt to pronounce these names has just beaten George Lind heads-up to the $10,000 Omaha 8 Championship and the first prize of $465,216.

George Lind has a huge list of poker accomplishments to his name – he was the first Supernova Elite on PokerStars in 2008 and 2010 (1,000,000 VPPs in three months) and that same year was the SCOOP Player of the Series with 27 cashes. He was of course hoping to add a bracelet to that list but he’ll have to wait a while longer.

The event lasted four days, which is in our eyes what you get when you split nearly every pot and don’t allow reasonably-sized bets. The fourth day began with just three players and it didn’t last long for Steve Billrakis who left within a few hands in third place. Despite the short stacks, it took over three hours for Lind and Zhukov to battle it out.

In the end when there were just twelve big bets in play and Lind was facing a 3-1 chip deficit he got it in good with just a pair of fours and some backdoor draws with 9h-8s-6h-4s on a 4d-Kh-Qs board. Zhukov had been the aggressor with Ac-Jh-7h-3c and it panned out well for him with the turned 5h giving him flush and straight draws and the 2d on the river completed the wheel draw, ending the tournament.

The full final table payouts were as follows:

1.Viacheslav Zhukov - $465,216
2.George Lind - $287,554
3.Steve Billirakis - $214,697
4.Richard Ashby - $161,379
5.Mack Lee - $122,054
6.Guillaume Rivet - $92,908
7.Jason Steinberg - $71,148
8.Mikael Thuritz - $54,837
9.Josh Arieh - $42,514
