WSOP 2011 – Mark Radoja wins $5,000 NL Shootout event

Friday, 17 June 2011

Mark Radoja has beaten four tables of world-class players (and probably a few fish too) in order to capture his first bracelet in the $5,000 NL Shootout event; he beat Jeffrey Gross heads-up to secure the title and a first prize of $436,568 alongside the wristwear.

The cheering section was enthusiastic despite a lack of British players at the final; it seems that we’ve finally convinced the American fans that ours is the correct way to support a final table. The rail even came out with a distinctly UK-esque round of chanting to the tune of “My Sharona”: “Oh my little pretty one, pretty one/When you gonna give me some time/Mark Rad-oja!”

A long final table was the precedent to their heads-up battle. Radoja began with a chip lead of more than 2-1 and never let it go throughout the mano-a-mano confrontation despite Gross’s best efforts with a double up. Eventually the two got it all-in before the flop with Radoja holding K-To against A-Jo – a ten on the flop put the eventual winner into the lead and a ten on the turn left Gross drawing dead. The ace on the river simply served to taunt him.

The full final table payouts were as follows:

1.Mark Radoja - $436,568
2.Jeffrey Gross - $269,742
3.Nicolas Fierrogottner - $198,096
4.Scott Baumstein - $146,639
5.Adam Junglen - $109,406
6.Nikita Lebedev - $82,287
7.Todd Terry - $62,370
8.Tom Marchese - $47,636
9.Sean Getzwiller - $36,669
