WSOP 2011 – Alexander Kostritsyn tops $10,000 Stud field

Monday, 13 June 2011

The $10,000 Seven-Card Stud Championship began yesterday with a stacked field of 126 taking to the Rio to try and seize one of the most traditionally-coveted bracelets in the WSOP. Despite losing the likes of Michael Mizrachi, Huck Seed, Alex Kravchenko and Eugene Katchalov there are still a whole host of big names remaining.

Not least is Alexander Kostritsyn – the Russian, often put on the “best without a bracelet” lists, is second place in chips with 105,900 to his name – more than triple his starting stack. Joining him in the top ten chip counts are Mike Sexton, Scott Clements, Erick Lindgren, Jennifer Harman and Steve Zolotow.

One player who managed to have a huge, variance-filled rollercoaster of a day – despite the fixed limit betting structure – is Tom “durrrr” Dwan. He built up his 30,000 starting stack to over 85k before dropping back down to 15k and then finishing the day on 45,700 with an about average stack.

Sixteen of the remaining 91 players will be paid at least $20,916 with the winner set to take home $331,639 and the appropriate wristwear.
