WSOP 2011 – $2,500 8-Game Day 1 complete

Tuesday, 14 June 2011

Eight blind levels with a game apiece later and Day 1 of the $2,500 8-Game Mix event is done and dusted with 248 of a 489-strong field left in contention, 200 of whom still need to be busted out to burst the money bubble.

Leading the way into Day 2 is Abraham Mourshaki, taking full advantage of the fact that this is one of few events not dominated by hoody-wearing, iPod-toting 21-year-olds. He racked up 64,850 chips by the end of the night but is being chased by Nikolay Evdakov, Marco Traniello, Jimmy Fricke, David Bach, Noah Boeken and Brandon Cantu in the top ten counts alone.

Lower down in the field we find more big poker names - $1.5k Stud winner Eugene Katchalov, mixed games demon Ville Wahlbeck, Phil Hellmuth, Max Pescatori, Allen Bari, Brian Rast, Josh Arieh, Shawn Buchanan and more.
In total, 48 players will reach the money but it’s all about making the eight-handed final table for at least $24,797 and hopefully the first prize of $278,144 and a World Series of Poker bracelet.
