WSOP 2011 - $1,500 No Limit bracelet goes to Foster Hays

Wednesday, 15 June 2011

Just six players returned for Day 4 of the $1,500 NL event with Foster Hays leading the chip counts. He held that lead all the way to the end of the tournament, save for one brief moment during heads-up when he relinquished it to runner-up Casey Kelton. After the last hand, the two players had such similar stacks a re-count was required three times to determine the winner.

In the final hand, Hays raised and was 3-bet by Kelton. Calling, the two had a 3m pot on their hands and a 9d-7d-4c flop that saw Kelton bet, Hays raise and Kelton 3-bet shove, being quickly called by Hays holding Jh-9s for top pair. Kelton could muster only A-J and was reduced to three outs or a chopped pot. The seven on the turn and queen on the river was devastating but he hadn’t lost yet.

Staff counted the chips and counted again; both players had near 7.1m apiece and it was difficult to determine if Kelton had just been eliminated or if he was hanging on by a few big blinds. After a few minutes Kelton received the bad news and Foster Hays had won his first bracelet.

The full final table payouts were as follows:

1.Foster Hays - $735,400
2.Casey Kelton - $454,920
3.Jeffrey Lavelle - $321,947
4.Allan Le - $233,043
5.Stanley Tavanese - $170,648
6.Robert Koss - $126,409
7.Tirstan Wade - $94,700
8.Philippe Vert - $71,728
9.Jordan Young - $54,936
