Monstrous 4,500-plus field for $1,000 NL event

Monday, 4 July 2011

Day 1b of the last “Weekend Warrior“ donkament concluded yesterday with a total field of 4,576 making this the second largest tournament in World Series of Poker history, behind only the inaugural $1,000 event won by Steve Sung in 2009.

The winner of this event still has over 550 players to get through before reaching the final table and the first prize of over $650,000. The list of players that came and went yesterday is too long to name - over 2,000 players hit the rail and among them were Jonathan Duhamel, Liv Boeree, Michael Mizrachi and Tom “durrrr” Dwan, multi-tabling this and the $50,000 Players’ Championship.

Of the 642 players remaining, 480 will see the money with an $1,812 mincash. The final nine will be treated to $53,333 with the winner set to take home one of the last bracelets of the summer as well as a tasty $648,880.
This field makes us optimistic - how many of those 4,576 players are in town mostly for the Main Event?
