Moneymaker and Chan triumph in WSOP Grudge Matches

Saturday, 4 June 2011

History repeated itself at the Rio as Chris Moneymaker once again emerged triumphant against Sammy Farha in the WSOP Grudge Match.

The pair played a best of three contest, squaring off in the first match with the same starting stacks they had when play went heads up in 2003. The stacks were reversed for game two with both players starting with level chips for the third clash.

With both players winning when starting with the big stack it was all to play for in the third. In the end it was the 2003 World Champion who took the $50,000 prize when his KJ crushed Farha's K10.

In the other match, Johnny Chan won a single winner takes all contest against Phil Hellmuth.

Fans hoping for a Rounders rematch were left disappointed though as the Erik Seidel versus Johnny Chan contest was postponed. Seidel was busy going deep in another WSOP event and couldn't be dragged away.
