Ben Lamb wins $10k PLO Championship

Tuesday, 28 June 2011

After finishing second in the $3,000 PLO event earlier this month Ben Lamb has gone one better in the $10,000 buy-in Championship Event and in the process nudged Phil Hellmuth off top of the Player of the Year standings.

Just four players were left when play resumed overnight and it didn't take long for Lamb to make his mark eliminating Christopher King to lengthen his chip lead. Englishman John Shipley was the next to go, bowing out to Sami 'LarsLuzak' 'Kelopuro who won the hand with an unlikely pair of queens. Despite the disappointment of coming so close the Solihull man can be well pleased his work, pocketing almost $370,000.

Heads up play didn't last long, with all the chips hitting the middle on an As9h3dQs board. Kelopuro revealed AcQcKd7d for top two pair but he needed to fade flush and straight draws to hold on. The river was a 5d giving Lamb a wheel and with it the title, $814,436 and his all important first bracelet.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Ben Lamb $814,436
2 Sami Kelopuro $503,173
